Abstract
This essay focuses the cooperation context university-company, its objectives, existing interactions mechanisms and the results of such cooperation. A field research was carried out in order to verify the intensity of the relationship between public and private universities and private companies in Paraná State, Brazil, as well as the relation of these relationships with the technological qualification of the companies. The study comprised 133 companies, distributed in the following branches: 65% in metallurgy, 18% in mechanics and 17% in electricity and communications. The study reveals the difficulties encountered in the cooperation between university and companies, most frequently used forms of cooperation, universities in Paraná State with a higher level of cooperation, and the relationship between companies technological qualification and their behavior in terms of cooperation.
